The story of HolidayPhone

When Joacim, founder of HolidayPhone, went on vacation to Thailand with his family, he discovered how expensive it was to call back home using his mobile phone, and receiving calls was another costly thing. Being a businessman, there was just no way he could turn his phone off - he simply had to be available. Joacim bought a prepaid Thai SIM card in order to reduce phone costs, but then another problem arose; he couldn't be reached on his regular mobile phone number.

This gave in 2010 birth to HolidayPhone; an easy-to-use Pay As You Go SIM card for your vacation needs, enabling people to reach you on your regular mobile phone number, where you can make and receive calls abroad at cost levels similar - or cheaper - to those at home.

How HolidayPhone is different from a local SIM card bought abroad

Our solution is different, since we do not only sell you a local foreign SIM Card. We also connect your US cell phone number with the foreign SIM card, so that you receive calls on your ordinary US cell phone number while abroad - without international roaming fees. Read how it works here »

Furthermore, a foreign SIM card bought abroad comes most often completely without any instructions on how to use the SIM card, and how to get for instance Internet to work in your phone. If instructions are available at all, they are most often only available in the local language. When you buy a SIM Card from HolidayPhone, you always get an internet setup guide and instructions in English.

We offer a solution for you to avoid this problem by offering a local prepaid SIM card to the country you plan to visit so that you can use your phone abroad without worrying about the invoice when you get home.

Thruths about "International SIM Cards"

There are many companies offering so called "International SIM Cards". That idea is good: A SIM Card that works in many countries with cheaper international rates.

However - the truth is that these SIM cards don't work as advertised and are many times more expensive even than roaming with your existing ordinary SIM Card.

Some of these "world/international/roamfree/sim-card-companies" promote a low tariff, but in order to get that low rate you will find out (too late) that in order to get that low rate, you will have to use a randomly working call back services that are difficult and complex for you as a normal non-technical person to use. If it works at all - some won't even tell you this until you receive the "International SIM card", or they hide it in the fine print so you won't notice. Another backdraw is that these "international SIM Cards" don't have mobile internet - or it comes at the same horrible rate as using your existing SIM Card abroad.
